CARROTHERS, Joe

Business Diploma in Accounting from St. Clair College. Presently works for SWT Group as Chief Financial Officer.

 

CHEN, Peter

Peter has worked as an addiction therapist with the Problem Gambling Services (PGS) of the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) since its implementation in April 1995.  The PGS was the first publicly funded treatment program for people affected by problem gambling in the province of Ontario.  He has also been one of the provincial trainers for the Problem Gambling Project of CAMH since its inception in 1998.
Peter has worked in the Addiction field for the past fifteen years and was on faculty for seven years at Georgian College, Orillia campus in their Addiction: Treatment and Prevention post-graduate diploma program. 
Peter is a certified Canadian Problem Gambling Counsellor and supervisor and has contributed to the two provincial CAMH resources: Helping the Problem Gambler and the award winning Promoting Community Awareness of Problem Gambling Resource Package. He has also presented on various topics at International Gambling Conferences worldwide. His specialty areas include Seniors and Gambling, the Application of the Brief Solution Focused Therapy model to problem gambling, Adult Education and Trauma and Bereavement.  Peter is also a martial arts practitioner and instructor.

 

LEE, Bonnie

Bonnie Lee, PhD, is an Associate Professor at the University of Lethbridge, Alberta in the Faculty of Health Sciences, Addictions Counselling Program. She is a Registered Marriage and Family Therapist and Approved Supervisor (Canadian Registry). Her empirically-supported Congruence Couple Therapy for the treatment of pathological gambling and other addictions has been adopted by various agencies in Ontario into their services. MILLIGAN, Jim

Jim Milligan is the General Manager, Diversity and Social Inclusion in the YMCA of Greater Toronto.  He holds a M.A. in Adult Education an M. Ed. in Counselling Psychology, both from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education in the University of Toronto, and is currently completing a Ph.D. in Adult Education with a focus on women and bingo.  Jim is the former Manager of The Donwood Institute Problem Gambling program, the YMCA YSAP program, and the YMCA Youth Gambling Awareness Program.  He has been involved in the problem gambling field since 1994.  Jim has also taught in the addictions program of George Brown College and Centennial College in Toronto, and in the Georgian College Addictions: Treatment and Prevention Program in Orillia.  Based in a strong belief in the principles of lifelong learning, Jim has been a supporter of the education and certification principles of the Canadian Problem Gambling Certification Board since its inception.

 

PARSONS, Gary

Gary Parsons comes to the Canadian Problem Gambling Certification Board from the Province of Newfoundland. Gary’s position for the last 11 years has been in the addiction field. For the past 6 years his primary portfolio has been that of an addictions counsellor for Problem Gambling. Gary provides workshops for the public, staff training, and in-service workshops on problem gambling. In 1999 and 2000, Gary received his Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Social Work at the Memorial University of Newfoundland. Gary is working on the required criteria for certification for the Canadian Problem Gambling Certification Board.

 

 

RUPCICH, Nick

Nick Rupcich is a Certified Gambling Counsellor through the American Certification Board in the state of New Jersey as well as in Canada. His educational and clinical training was done at Belmont Centre for Comprehensive Treatment in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  Nick has participated in many research studies and facilitated training seminars and conference presentations in Canada and the United States. He has authored a number of peer reviewed research articles. Following years of program development and managing the largest problem gambling treatment centre in Canada, Nick shares his time between family, volunteer work and problem gambling consultation.

 

STANLEY, Heidi

Heidi Stanley, B.A, B.Ed, M.Ed is the Co-ordinator and Co-designer of Georgian College’s post-graduate studies in addictions counselling, Addictions: Treatment and Prevention.  With over 25 years of teaching experience at all levels, and an interesting background in working with unique populations and counseling disadvantaged youth, she currently teaches the gambling component of the counselling curriculum and represents the college on a number of boards and community task forces.  She is one of the founding members of the Canadian Problem Gambling Certification Board and the current Chair of the Applicant Review Committee.  Heidi is also committed to community wellness and is the past Chair of Green Haven’s Shelter for Women and a seasoned board member of Seven South Street Recovery Home for men.  Heidi has an extensive background in education, addictions and community development making her a valuable member of the team.

 

TODERIAN, Sheila

Sheila Toderian is a Registered Social Worker and a Canadian Problem Gambling Certified Counsellor with Addictions Services Kenora Gambling Program.  Sheila has been in the lead position of designing and developing the Gambling Program in Kenora since 1998.  She is responsible for community development and awareness projects, and for providing clinical services to adults in the Gambling Program.  She also provides group treatment in partnership with other children’s and adult’s mental health programs in Kenora.  She presently specializes in dealing with concurrent issues and couples counselling.  Sheila has been involved in 2 OPGRC funded research projects: (1) “Northwestern Ontario’s Women’s Experiences of Gambling and Problem Gambling” (2001-2002), Principal Investigator Ruth E. Berry Ph.D. and Research Associate Cheryl Fraehlich MSc., from the University of Manitoba  (2) Sheila took part in the first Congruence Couple Therapy training research funded by the Ontario Problem Gambling Research Centre research award in the project “Training Counsellors in Congruence Couple Therapy: A Controlled Evaluation Study” (2004-2006), Principal Investigator Dr. Bonnie Lee. 

 

WARD, Don

Don has worked as a prevention education consultant for the Addictions Foundation of Manitoba since 1981; full time in the problem gambling area since 1993. He has facilitated many problem gambling counsellor training programs in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Ontario, British Columbia, New Brunswick and Newfoundland. The province of Saskatchewan uses Don exclusively to train all their problem gambling counsellors. Don also pioneered the first Responsible Gambling Information Centre (RGIC) in the McPhillip’s St. Station casino in Winnipeg – a centre that has since been copied by numerous Canadian casinos. Don was also instrumental in staff training for the RGIC’s in Ontario, Nova Scotia, PEI and Saskatchewan. He is also the principal trainer for casino staff training in Manitoba and has been utilized by Casino Regina and the Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority for staff training for their casinos on numerous occasions. Don has also been a conference presenter at numerous national and international problem gambling conferences. Don is certified as a counsellor under the Canadian Problem Gambling Certified Board.

 

CHAN, Clarence

Clarence Chan has worked for 13 years in the field of problem gambling in Richmond, B.C. He is certified as a gambling counsellor under the Canadian Problem Gambling Certification Board. Clarence has received both his Bachelor of Social Sciences (Honors), and Master of Social Sciences (Criminology) at the University of Hong Kong. He has worked in various departments for the Social Welfare Department Hong Kong Government.
